Born and raised in South London. Hugo’s background is in Sport. He studied at Edinburgh University, following which he worked in the Football industry. Hugo discovered drawing and painting during the first lockdown in 2020, following a severe bout of Covid. Recovering in isolation Hugo turned to drawing. During this period he gave shape and meaning to the passing of time by following a strict daily regime of drawing, starting with pastels on A4 paper. This progressed quickly to painting in oils, a medium particularly appropriate and complimentary to his use of colour.

Hugo’s practice engages with social and political themes in connection to Artificial Intelligence, which are layered using multiple disciplines such as, Digital drawing, Oil Painting, Sculpture, Animation, and Ai tools such as Midjourney.

Hugo enjoys digital drawing as a fast and versatile medium for developing ideas. Once there is a firm understanding of composition and subject, oil paint is his most often desired medium because of its richness, depth, feel and flexibility. Hugo often recreates finished paintings as plasticine sculptures, adding a 3 dimensional perspective. This transition from 2D to 3D helps him to emphasise playful qualities within the created works.
